A lack of trash bins will lead to this.

There is a new public space in Brno.

A beautiful place with numerous minimalistic white seats and fountains, as well as green lawns.

All above the parking hidden underground.

However, something has gone wrong.

The point is that there is no trash bins in the whole area. Just during my short stay in that area I’ve mentioned a lot of moms with carriages and children, old and young people. The place is magnetic, many different people are coming here every day. But probably, architects designed this place for people for filling an empty space in the city center.

Crazy cycling paths in Brno

Yes, Brno has many cycling paths. Short, long, safe and unsafe, on the sidewalks and along multi-line roads, most of them are disconnected from each other.

But usually you will see only this sign, telling you to disappear continue going by bicycle along the road. As it is in Svatopluka Čecha street.
Mention, that the sidewalk is wide enough to place beautiful cycling path marks and keep a space for pedestrians too.

This quiet residential street is connecting 2 important cycling paths.
Probably, the safest solution would be to transform the whole street into a bicycle street like here and here.

There is enough space to implment 3-meters ‘red carper’ bicycle street with both direction traffic and 0.75 cm buffer zones from each side of the street, where the locals leave their cars parked. So finally 2 big city districts – Kralové Pole and Žabovřesky – would be connected by the safest bicycle commuting in Brno.

Smart tree care.

Look, how they maintain a healthy young tree by means of rubber and wooden sticks!

This smart solution can be a tip for many cities for sure.

Taking care of young trees, cutting and prunning them in a right way will make them grow in a mature healthy trees with safely arranged branches and no extra costs for maintainance. Bravo, Brno.

A wrong border.

Usually, most of Brno sidewalks are done in a way, so they are comfortable for everybody walking: old and young, people with carriage, people with luggage, people on bicycle etc. The secret of good sidewalks is that they are pulled down on the same level as the road where it makes sence.

This is an example of good and bad sidewalks in one photo. As you can see, they were repairing something (the pipes) under ground. They had to demolish a part of the sidewalk, so you can see a newely placed black asphalt… and a wrong border too.

No, this hadn’t happen.

How should old people jump over this, ha? Or may be moms will be happy to lift their carriages every time? Or anybody carrying a luggage on wheels? Every second person has experienced a discomfort in his back when lifting a suitcase. Some time ago I’ve got my back block when lifting my luggage just to pass couple of stairs. I had to attend physioterapeut and rehabilitation center after this!

Obviously, this border doesn’t belong here. Nobody would appreciate another impediment on his way.

Brno has so many beautiful sidewalks, it’s a really comfortable city for everybody: there are many lifts and non-barrier crossroads and entrances everywhere. So why should a sidewalk be done in a bad way when it is possible to be done in a good way?
